Easy Staycation Home Projects to Spruce Up Your Home

We don’t always have the opportunity to leave the city for our holidays. Why not do a few of  these easy DIY projects that won’t take up all of your staycation time, but they will spruce up your home.

Paint Your Front Door

Your front door is the first impression people have of your home. If your door is structurally in good shape, you may just need to apply a fresh coat of paint.  Don’t paint over your door unless the surface has been cleaned and scrape off any old, loose paint first. Don’t forget to paint the shutters too if you have them. Your door should match the shutters.

Re-Seal Your Driveway

Nothing looks nicer than driving up to a home that has a fresh looking new driveway.  You don’t always have to replace a driveway for it to look new again. You can spruce up the driveway to give it that new black driveway look.  Buy and can or two of a good grade driveway sealer and your driveway will look almost new again.

Painting interior trim

Summer is the perfect time to paint indoors. The warmer temperature’s will help dry the paint faster and opening up the windows will help reduce any odours from the paint.

Often the trim of our homes gets abused by us and our furniture and we often overlook them. Painting your window, door and floor trim can really spruce up the look of a home.

Remember, before you paint over the old trim, make sure you sand the sheen off of the old paint with sand paper or an easier way is with liquid sand paper.

Which ever trim paint product you choose to use, read the instructions for coverage and drying time.

Organize that messy garage.

Wouldn’t you love to reclaim your garage space and use it for what it really was intended for? You Car!

You can attached brackets to the wall to hold all of your garden tools. Install ceiling hooks and bam!! you have a great place to store your bikes. You can attach wood brackets to the ceiling off to the side of the garage and store your wood up there too.  Build a wall of open shelves for all of your Christmas decorations, home repair tools, paint and car care products. Putting doors on the shelves is pretty easy and keeps all of dust and dirt off what ever it is you are storing on them.

Replacing worn window screens

You can change the entire look of a window just by replacing the screens. Often our screens lose their colour or shape and makes our windows look older than they are.  Dirt, grime and even grease can build up and block the screen holes. You may be missing some of the wonderful outdoor breezes coming into your home. Replacing your screens is an easy project and your local home improvement center will help guild you on how to do this for your particular window type.
