Get Your Home Fall Ready

Take Care Of The Gutters: There are thousands of gallons of water that runs down your roof top every year. It's important to keep your gutter system running smoothly. Clean out our gutters before the leaves fly into them and then after if you don't have any guards over your gutter. Make sure the downspouts are cleaned out as well. Gunk and leaves can accumulate at the end of the downspouts. The water will back up in your gutters and flow over them which could cause the water to go into your basement.

Take a Closer Look for Air leaks:  Air leaks around your windows or doors could increase your energy bill by 10% or more. Use caulking around the outside of your windows. You can also pick up some weather stripping for around  your doorways. Don't forget to check any cables coming into the house. You may need to add caulking around those entry points.

Check Your Roof:  Roof problems are a home owners worst nightmare. Finding the cause  of a roof problem can be time consuming if you do it yourself. Check for cracks in the roofing tiles, damage to any metal flashing. Make sure you don't have any curled roof tiles. If your cutters have granules in them, it's a sign that your roof is loosing it's coating.

Check Your Walk Ways and Driveway: A damaged walkway, driveway or steps can cause some problems when the ice comes. Those cracks good get bigger if ice builds up in them. Fill those cracks or if they are very damaged think about replacing them.  Don't forget to check any railings you have. If there are any loose area's in the posts or railing fix them now. Once the snow comes you or a family member may have to rely on the rails for support and we don't want an accident.

Most of these smaller jobs are not difficult for someone that is handy. If you are not able to do these types of repairs, there are handymen in your area that will do it for you.
Don't forget to check your outside water taps and make sure your hoses are drained and the water is shut off.
