Helpful Tips For Packing Up Your Home To Move

Moving can be very stressful. We won’t tell you that these tips will help eliminate all of your stress, but they certainly will help eliminate some of them.

So, you’ve sold your house and you are so excited with the new chapter in your life, but then you have a panic attack because you have so much stuff and you can’t  figure out where to start.  Here are a few tips that might help.

  • Get some boxes – you can either buy them – which can be a bit expensive or you can go to your local liquor store; Wal-Mart, convenience store, Home Hardware and ask when it would be a good time to pick up some boxes.  Don’t get them too big because once filled they might be a tad heavy and awkward to handle.
  • You don’t want all your liquids, cleaning supplies, cooking oils, toiletries to spill so take off the lids and place a piece of plastic wrap underneath and then replace the lid and put in them in the right packing box.
  • Use towels, blankets, or any other linen items to protect your fragile stuff.  As you know, bubble wrap can be expensive.  For your glass ware use white tissue paper from the Dollar Store, this way you won’t have to wash all your glasses before putting them away in your new home.
  • Cover your clothes with large garbage bags – just cut a hole in the bottom of the bag, slip the bag over the hangers and voila.  You might need a few of them depending on the size of your wardrobe.
  • For the dressers just remove the drawers, bring the dresser down, re-insert the drawers in the moving truck – no need to pack the drawers.
  • Here are a couple of ways to identify your boxes.  By colour, put a piece of coloured tape on the box and a piece on the door frame where the box belongs – this will help with what goes where.  Our with a sharpie pen – print right on the box what it contains and where its goes.
